Head Heart Hara

Most of us don’t actually feel our emotions. We think them. A feeling arises in the heart — hurt, anger, sadness. Almost immediately, the mind takes over. We analyse. We explain. We construct narratives. We judge. In other words, we move Heart → Head. We try to think our way to feeling better.

This approach prevents us from fully experiencing our emotions. The emotions get partially suppressed, freezing up vital energy in the process. What is not felt fully, persists.

But what if the invitation is different?

Instead of going upward into the mind, allow the emotion to drop downward into the hara — the grounded centre in the lower belly. No analysis. No story. Just the raw experience in the body. Interestingly, when a feeling is fully allowed like this, it often metabolises on its own.

Maybe emotional maturity isn’t about getting better at explaining our feelings. Maybe it’s about getting better at fully feeling them.

Heart → Hara.

This re-orientation represents one of the core principles when we work with clients in a transformational coaching setting. By holding space for clients to feel their feelings, deeper layers of frozen energy start to melt, thus releasing vital life force.
